• High-velocity rapid deceleration events are most likely to cause multi-system trauma. • Low-velocity, high-mass events are likely to cause only local injury. • Multiple trauma is a high-risk problem worthy of conscientious BLS and evacuation to a hospital. • Maintaining normal body core temperature is a critical part of BLS for multiple trauma patients. • Multiple trauma complicated by environmental issues and preexisting problems can be confusing; remember the generic to specific principle, and that critical systems come first. • Be cautious with fluid resuscitation if bleeding is not controlled.
